EdgeMax does something no conventional ceiling loudspeaker does: it mounts at the edge of the room and throws its output across the space rather than straight down. The PhaseGuide waveguide produces a wide, even pattern from a perimeter position, so the middle of the ceiling stays free of grilles.

Bose EdgeMax EM90 in-ceiling loudspeaker

That matters in two situations. In a room with an architecturally sensitive or exposed ceiling, it removes most of the visual clutter. In a room with a high ceiling, it puts the loudspeaker closer to the listener and improves intelligibility without adding units.

EM90 covers a corner at ninety degrees, EM180 covers a wall at a hundred and eighty. Both run 8 ohm or 100V line, and the low-profile versions fit where plenum depth is tight.
